Chiropractics

Chiropractic care has traditionally been associated with relieving and preventing lower back pain. Although this is certainly one area we deal with successfully, at CITAHEALTH, our emphasis is on rehabilitating and treating soft tissues (including muscles, nerves, and the fascia which connect them), whether it be in the lower back or any other area of the body.

The interesting fact about soft tissue is that it reacts the same way to trauma and/or repetitive stress regardless which area of the body we are talking about. This common response to injury includes the build up of scar tissue and fibrosis leading to eventual pain and tightness.

Our goal is to simply reverse this process by breaking up this unhealthy fibrous tissue.

We specialize in one of the most effective ways of achieving this goal: the increasingly popular Active Release Technique (A.R.T.).

With A.R.T. we can successfully treat many soft tissue conditions, anywhere from shin splints to computer related upper back and shoulder pain. Of course, no rehab program is complete without appropriate exercises to correct any muscular or postural imbalances which may be contributing to the problem. Compliance with the exercise program assures the problem does not come back.

What is A.R.T.?

To put it simply, A.R.T. is a hands-on soft tissue technique used to effectively remove muscular pain and stiffness as quickly as possible.

How does A.R.T. Achieve this?

  • The doctor feels for tight fibrotic areas which are responsible for your pain and stiffness.
  • Using a very specific contact and pressure, the sticky scar tissue is RELEASED or broken up manually as the patient ACTIVELY lengthens the specific muscle. This active lengthening is what sets A.R.T. apart from other more static deep tissue therapies.
  • Due to the enhanced circulation, waste and debris are removed while nutrients and oxygen are brought in.
  • Healthy tissue can now be regenerated.
  • Pain and stiffness is eliminated.
  • What are some Common Conditions Treated with A.R.T.?

A.R.T. is the treatment of choice for many soft tissue injuries. Some common examples include:

  • stiff/painful neck and shoulder due to excessive amount of time in front of the computer
  • back pain and associated sciatica from a car accident
  • shoulder pain due to a sport or weight training injury
  • runner's knee due to tight IT band
