Breath Alcohol Awareness Program

The goal of our Breath Alcohol Awareness Program is to increase awareness towards drinking and driving and the severe consequences that can result from it. CITAHEALTH will provide a Certified Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) to attend your function and administer voluntary breath alcohol testing for guests. This will provide an accurate Breath Alcohol Concentration (BAC) that is strictly confidential, and will only be released to the person tested.

In our opinion, this is the most socially and legally responsible service a company can provide to their employees who are attending a corporate sponsored event.

Decrease Liability at Corporate Functions

Do you provide complimentary alcoholic beverages at corporate functions? If so, did you know that your company could be held legally responsible if someone from your function drinks and drives? If an employee is found to be impaired, our technicians will advise the guest to extend their stay and retest or to make alternate travel arrangements.

Approved Technicians and Equipment

All of our technicians are certified breath alcohol technicians (BAT's) who are qualified to provide testing for the Ministry of Transportation and the US Department of Transportation (DOT). Testing is performed on Intoximeter RBT IV Portable Alcohol Analyzer Systems which exceed the federal specifications for accuracy and precision. Results are generated in approximately 30 seconds which allows us to test a large number of guests in a short period of time.

Q. Why should our company implement a Breath Alcohol Awareness Program?
Answer

A. With the recent court cases against employers who provide complimentary alcohol to guests, legal counsels have been advising their clients to make more proactive steps to prevent lawsuits. There are also the obvious benefits to the safety of your employees and to those around them.

Q. Our corporation has always served complimentary alcohol at functions. How do I suddenly implement a breath alcohol testing program?
Answer

A. First, it is important to stress to your guests that testing is not mandatory and is provided by your company as a complimentary service. They must understand that it is up to them whether they take a test and that the results are not released to anyone but them. Once they realize that the company is not overseeing the testing, they are much more likely to use the service which is to everyone's advantage.

Q. How have employees reacted to a Breath Alcohol Testing Program?
Answer

A. We have been very well received by employees, who have noted that being able to use a breath alcohol device was a valuable learning experience.

Q. What happens if someone discovers that they are impaired?
Answer

A. If one of your guests is found to be impaired, our technicians will advise them to extend their stay until they register zero breath alcohol content or to make alternate travel arrangements. This is often where someone can be persuaded to take a taxi, when they would otherwise have driven. Our message is always to avoid driving if you have been drinking.

Q. What is the cost of your service?
Answer

A. CITAHEALTH will send a certified Breath Alcohol Technician (BAT) to the site of you function at a rate of $125 CAD/hr. We also charge $5.00 per test that is performed on your guests.

Q. How far in advance should I book your services for my event?
Answer

A. As the holiday season approaches, dates will fill up quickly. Currently we have the capacity to attend 1-2 events per day, with weekends booking more quickly than weekdays. One drink equals 1 oz. of 80 proof liquor or 12 oz. of beer or 5 oz. of table wine. If your weight is between two of those shown, use the lower weight. Subtract .01% for each 40 minutes of drinking.
