Foreign Posting / Return Medical Exam

As more and more corporations send employees to developing areas of the world where the burden of illness differs drastically from that of North America, there is an increasing need for employers to offer pre-travel medical care and advice to their traveling employees.

A foreign posting medical examination not only identifies the employee's risk factors for acquiring certain infectious diseases and allows implementation of preventative measures but also provides the employee with all the necessary travel information, immunizations and medical documentation for a Visa, if required.

Medical Examination and Consultation

Through a personal discovery session, CITAHEALTH's consulting occupational physician will gather confidential information concerning the employee's past and current occupation, medical history, immunization status as well as family medical history and lifestyle habits. This will assist the physician in the design and implementation of a tailored medical examination, one that addresses their potential health concerns.

Within 7-14 days a confidential personal letter is sent out to the patient that includes all results from the examination as well as the examining physician's recommendations. A copy of their results can be forwarded to their family physician upon written request.

At the same time, a Medical Evaluation Report is sent to you, the employer. This report outlines the employee's fitness to work and travel in a foreign country (medical information will remain confidential).

The examination will include the following screening and laboratory tests:

  • Personal Health and Occupational Travel Questionnaire
  • Physical examination
  • Haematology panel and automated differential WCC
  • Complete blood chemistry
  • Uric acid (gout)
  • Liver function tests
  • Kidney function
  • Lipid profile
  • Minerals and protein
  • Complete Urinalysis
  • Visual Screening (near and far vision)
  • Lung function testing
  • Optional or additional tests that may be required:

  • Chest x-ray
  • Hepatitis A/B and other vaccinations
  • HIV, Hep B, TB, and VDRL immunity status
  • Blood group
  • TB testing
  • Resting ECG (electrocardiogram)
  • Stress ECG (exercise tolerance test)
  • * Returning from a foreign posting may require testing stool culture for ova and parasites.
